Wow! What an amazing evening to celebrate all the unique artistic talents of our student’s here at Geelong Lutheran College. I had so many highlights, as I’m sure you did too, one of which was the puppet show performed by the Year 9/10 Drama class. The high standard and quality of Visual Arts and Media works were astonishing! It was so wonderful to be able to have Ms. Jill Lange-Mohr and Dr. Barry Krueger to present students from Prep to Year 12 certificates for both the Principal Award and the Highly Commended Awards.
The day was a bit of a whirlwind and particularly stressful waiting for the certificate of occupancy for our new state of the art Gymnasium. Thankfully our prayers were met, and we were able to, in a bit of a flurry, hang art works, organise equipment, sound and audio checks and rehearsals. All of the artworks were presented beautifully, the Media room showcased some interesting and thought-provoking films, with a range of filming techniques mastered. The Musical and Drama performers had time to do a quick sound check and rehearsal and were able to demonstrate their inspiring talent and showcase their skills in both Music and Drama.
The food vendors such as the VCAL woodfired pizza’s, Churros, Hot Potatoes, Mexican and the Coffee Van provided delicious and delightful foods for all families to enjoy. It had a nice relaxed ambiance outside of the Gymnasium and I particularly enjoyed listening to our student buskers entertain our families and friends. The Churro food vendor Yolanda was kind enough to donate to Geelong Lutheran College $80 to say thank you for all the business received on the night. The Arts staff have decided to donate the $80 to the Children’s Starlight Foundation. https://starlight.org.au/donate/donate-today/
What a memorable, enjoyable and successful evening and one that our community here at Geelong Lutheran College can look back on fondly. Thanks to our students and families for their ongoing support. Thanks also to the Arts Staff, Primary and Secondary Staff Members, Student Arts Leaders, Parent Helpers (particularly Mrs. Samantha Grant), Administration Staff and Maintenance Staff for a magnificent team effort!
Artfully Yours, Ms. Sophie Garrard – Arts Leader
