What a fantastic Book Week we've had this year at Geelong Lutheran College.
Students chose a variety of characters for their costumes and joyfully shared these in our Paraded. Many carried the book from which their character comes. The St John's Newtown staff shared in the fun by dressing up in amazing costumes from some of their favourite books, includingThe Cat in the Hat, Where’s Wally, and even our very own Paddington Bear, while their counterparts at Armstrong Creek dressed up as characters from Where is the Green Sheep? and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Parades were held at both campuses, with the St John’s Lutheran Kindergarten students joining in the St John's parade, and the Armstrong Creek Year 12 cohort taking part in their campus' parade.
Throughout the week, we shared a selection of Shortlisted titles in Resource Centre sessions and in classes. Students in Years 5-7 participated in an online presentation from Australian author Tristan Bancks. He spoke about his own writing experience as well as giving students useful suggestions for writing their own stories. His novels have now disappeared on loan from the shelves and from the digital ePlatform collection!
Lunchtime activities were also held throughout the week, and were all based around the books on this year’s Picture Book of the Year shortlist.
