Wellbeing Counsellor/Social Worker (0.8 FTE)

Geelong Lutheran College – Armstrong Creek & St John’s Newtown

Geelong Lutheran College is seeking a compassionate, professional, and dedicated part-time Wellbeing Counsellor/Social Worker to join our Wellbeing team at St John's Newtown and Armstrong Creek campuses. This vital role supports the social, emotional, and academic wellbeing of our primary students through short-term counselling, early intervention, and mental health promotion.

Working closely with students, families, staff, and external agencies, the Wellbeing Counsellor/Social Worker helps address issues such as anxiety, social challenges, and barriers to learning—contributing to a safe, supportive, and thriving school environment.


The Wellbeing Counsellor/Social Worker will:

  • Provide individual and small-group counselling for primary students.
  • Support the delivery of group programs for students at risk.
  • Facilitate referrals and liaise with external agencies as required.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers to support student engagement and success.
  • Coordinate Allied Health services, including scheduling appointments, managing bookings, maintaining accurate records, allocating rooms, and collaborating with the Inclusive Education team.

You will work as part of a collaborative Wellbeing team, contributing to early identification of students at risk, ensuring appropriate follow-up, and implementing student support plans. This position also plays a key role in promoting child safety and pastoral care across the College.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, or Counselling.
  • Eligibility for membership of a relevant professional association.
  • Demonstrated experience in counselling using current therapeutic practices.
  • Experience supporting students and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Competence in coordinating services and liaising with external agencies.
