The Primary School Choirs from Prep to Year 2 and Year 3 to 6, String Ensemble and Middle/ Senior School Performance Choir represented Geelong Lutheran College at the 71st Annual Geelong Schools’ Music and Movement Festival.

This year’s Festival was one of the biggest on record, with thousands of students participating from over 40 schools in the region, across four days at Costa Hall.  Young people from the city, coast and country came together to perform for their friends, families and fellow students.

Our Performance Choir sang a selection of contemporary songs:  The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Under the Bridge, a choral arrangement of ColdPlay’s Fix You and a traditional (gospel sounding) Zulu wedding song, Sin Njay Njay Njay.

The Primary voices presented Do Re Mi, and the Australian work Kakadu by Sherelle Eyles.  Kakadu teaches harmonic blending and unison singing, question and answer techniques, and explores the vocal and dynamic range of the voice. The song’s imagery is that of being a bird flying around in a carefree environment.

All who took part are commended for their dedication and hard work in the lead up to their highlight performances on this big stage.  Our students are encouraged to keep enjoying their music making and the journey that it takes them.

“Celebrating Music of the Sea”, this summer’s music camp runs from 14 – 19 January 2018.  Information and (early bird) Registration for the 2018 Camp is now available.  Please see the website for further details:  https://www.gsmc.org.au
